Atlanta Streetcar, Inc.メs November meeting of its boards of directors and advisors, plus more than 200 supporters, put an exclamation point on two years of tireless efforts by many of Atlantaメs top business, political, civic and educational leaders to move the Streetcar project to its next phase.

The mayor will now commission a task force that will establish a vision for the Peachtree corridor, with a streetcar system, in her words, "as its centerpiece." Mayor Franklin assured the audience that the streetcar would be the catalyst for the Peachtree corridorメs economic redevelopment and ultimate success.

Mayor appoints real estate developers to head task force
Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin announced at the November board meeting of Atlanta Streetcar, Inc. that the city will move forward with the streetcar initiative and redevelopment of the Peachtree corridor.

During the meeting, Franklin announced the appointment of Tom Bell (CEO of Cousins Properties) and Egbert Perry (CEO of the Integral Group) to co-chair a task force to formalize the vision for the Peachtree corridor initiative.

Aquarium benefactor calls streetcar "a necessity"
As the worldメs largest aquarium opens, its benefactor, Bernie Marcus, describes a streetcar system as a key to the cityメs long-term development. The streetcarメs Downtown Loop will link the hotel district on Peachtree west to the Georgia Aquarium and surrounding attractions, and east to the Sweet Auburn district.
