Cousins and Selig Executives Join Buckhead Community Improvement District Board

ATLANTA, June 5, 2009 – The Buckhead Community Improvement District announced today that two veteran real estate developers have been elected to its board of directors. Tom Bell is President and Chief Executive Officer of Cousins Properties, Inc. Scott Selig is Selig Enterprises' VP of Acquisitions and Development. The Buckhead CID board confirmed the appointment of both men at its meeting on May 27, 2009.
"Both new members have a long history of supporting the CID and its mission of conceiving and executing infrastructure improvements to enhance the quality of life in Buckhead," said David Allman, Buckhead CID board chair. The two new members replace Mark Alexander, Senior Director of Managed Accounts at CBRE Investors; and Earl Shell, recently retired chairman of Hardin Construction Group, Inc. Both men are charter members of the Buckhead CID board.
Tom Bell has decades of experience in corporate management, governance, and leadership in both the public and private sectors. He assume the role of Cousins Properties Chairman of the Board upon the retirement of Chairman and Founder Tom Cousins in December 2006 [read official bio]. He recently co-chaired the Peachtree Corridor Task Force, created by Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin to create a new vision for Peachtree, Atlanta's signature street.
"Cousins has significant investments in Buckhead and elsewhere along Peachtree," Bell said. "The CID's capital projects play an important role in encouraging development in the corridor and increasing the value of our portfolio."
Cousins Properties, Inc. donated 100 percent of its right-of-way that fronted Phase I of the Peachtree Boulevard transformation, the CID's 10-year effort to make Peachtree in Buckhead more navigable for cars, pedestrians, and bikers.
Scott Selig joined Selig Enterprises in 2000. He holds an MBA from the University of Georgia in Real Estate and Strategic Management [read official bio].
"Selig Enterprises is proud to have supported the creation of the Buckhead CID 10 years ago and its expansion into the Buckhead Village," Selig said. Selig Enterprises is on the exploratory committee working with Piedmont Hospital to examine the further expansion south to I-85.
The Buckhead CID [www.buckheadcid.com] is a self-taxing entity authorized to collect and borrow funds to construct and maintain streets and common areas, as well as manage alternative transportation solutions in the district.
